Once you have an image you will need to set the picture size to the correct settings.

Click the button labelled 'FORMAT', a new setting box will be displayed, change the image size or resolution to 176 X 144 pixels.

You can adjust your cameras picture quality by using the 'SOURCE' or 'DISPLAY' buttons.

Setting Up your Sound Card...

In order to enable voice communications you will need to set up your sound card correctly.

Failure to set up your sound card may result in the internet phone not working.

Please note some sound cards are not compatible and therefore may not work correctly.

Also the settings shown below may be different on your computer system.

To start double click your speaker icon in the task bar tray at the bottom of your screen by the system clock...

This image is taken from Windows XP, the speaker icon is middle one colored grey, you may need to click the arrow button to reveal the speaker icon.

When you double click the speaker icon a setup dialog for Volume Control will be seen...

Select Options > Properties from the menu. Another dialog box will appear...

In the 'Adjust Volume For' select Recording and select microphone from the list then click the OK button.

Making a Call...

Vision Communicator must be installed on two different computers to work either on a LAN or the internet, however you can test out the video on the one machine by using the test IP Address... 127.0.0.1

  1. Open the CONTACT list and select your contact and then close the contact list.
  2. Click the CALL button to make the call. If the call fails to connect CALL ERROR will be displayed - see the troubleshooting section at the end.
  3. To end a call click the CANCEL button.

When someone calls you a sound will be played and the ANSWER button will flash.

You will also be able to see who is calling you and hear them if their HEADSET button is turned on.

To reject the call click the CANCEL button.

To accept the call click the ANSWER button.

You can now see each other and should be able to speak to each other using your soundcard loudspeakers and microphone.

Controlling the Audio During a Conversation...

There are two ways to control the audio...

You can have a two way conversation where both parties can speak at the same time this option is by default turned on (HEADSET option).

If you use the HEADSET option without actually using a headset, instead you use a normal desktop speakers and microphone you will get feedback where you will hear your own voice a few seconds later.

To reduce feedback alter your sound card volume controls for the microphone and loudspeakers.

To eliminate feedback use headset microphones or switch to a one way conversation.

To use the ONE WAY conversation option...

Turn off the HEADSET button by clicking it, on both computers during the call.

Now when you want to talk press the TALK button and hold it down whilst you speak.

Release the TALK button when you have finished speaking, so the other party can click their TALK button.

If the other parties microphone is turned on, your TALK button will light up red.

Troubleshooting...

If you have problems with connecting to remote computer check the following:-

  • Check the IP Address of the computer your calling.

The LAN IP and internet IP are different, if you are connecting to a remote computer via the internet you must use the internet IP, to find out your internet IP Address visit our home page - scroll down the page till you see the phrase 'Your IP Address is  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx '.

Your Internet IP Address may not be a static address i.e. it may change every time you connect to the internet. If this is the case you can set up a special address which never changes with a DNS solution provider, try www.no-ip.com.

  • Check firewall settings on both computers.

The Port which Vision Communicator uses for communications is   '54080' please enable in and out communication on your firewall.

  • Are you connecting through a router?

Please enable port redirection on the router using port number 54080.

Refer to your routers instruction manual for details.
