PATROL User Guide - Using Vision Patrol Software...

Vision Patrol Overview

Patrol is a unique professional video security and information tool.

It is designed to work with just about any webcam or capture card & camera connected to a Personal Computer.

Some Features:-

  • Video Motion Detection (VMD)

  • Motion detection masking of trouble areas

  • Hard disk recording of alarm images

  • Automatic emailing of alarm images

  • Automatic up-loading to website of alarm images

  • Remote viewing of real-time video via a web browser or Patrol Viewer

  • X10 Home Automation Appliance Control locally and remotely

  • Telemetry camera remote control

Patrol monitors movement or motion within the video pictures from your camera.
If motion is detected an alarm is generated and Patrol will automatically save a photo

from the camera to the computers hard disk.

If you desire, during the alarm Patrol can also automatically send copies of the photos to email

addresses using it's built in email engine or up-load them to an internet website using it’s built in File Transfer Protocol (FTP) engine.

The emails or up-loads consist of three pictures - one photo from just before the alarm (pre-alarm),

a photo at the time of the alarm (alarm) and a photo after the alarm (post-alarm).

Because of the power of email you can receive an email almost instantaneously or you can browse the

internet website on another computer or mobile computing device (PDA) anywhere in the world!

Patrol can also deliver images direct to you through its own web server.

Just connect directly to Patrol using a web browser such as Internet Explorer™,

Netscape Navigator™ or Vision Explorer and you can see a live image from the camera.

within a few seconds you should see pictures from your default webcam. If you do not see any pictures but just a black screen then you will need to check Patrols Video Server settings. Refer to the setup guide for details.

Motion Detection

To activate motion detection, click the motion button.  The green light will flash.
Underneath the buttons you will see an indicator bar. The bar will move up and down depending on the amount of motion being detected. The longer the bar the more motion being detected.

To adjust the sensitivity of the motion detector you can move the sensitivity adjuster.

The Slider can be opened by clicking on the 'indicator bar' at the bottom of the video window  just underneath the buttons or from the 'Motion Sensitivity Adjustment' button in the settings dialogue.

When the red indicator lights and sound plays (if enabled) motion has been detected.

You can also mask areas of a picture to stop false alarms using the 'Motion Mask' settings.

Refer to the ‘motion settings’ in the setup guide for details on setting up the motion mask.

To turn off motion detection click the motion button once more.

Remote Viewing with the Web Server

To View the images you can use an internet browser such as Vision Explorer.
For Remote Viewing to work you must have started Patrol by clicking the start button .
There are two possible ways of connecting to Patrol to use the remote web viewing feature.

One way is via a Local Area Network (LAN) or across the Internet.

If you are connecting via the internet you will need to have the computer which has Patrol installed on a 'always on' type of

connection such as broadband ADSL or ISDN.

To test the remote viewing facility on the same computer which has Patrol running open your internet browser...

Enter the following in the address bar in internet explorer™ ... http://127.0.0.1 and hit the 'Return' or 'Enter' key on your keyboard or click here... http://127.0.0.1  (The 127.0.0.1 is a network IP address for testing network programs on the same machine).

If all is correct you should see a page with the image from your camera. If you have set up a User Name and Password you will be prompted for them before the page with the picture on will be visible.

From this page you can select a Live Camera View or X10 Remote Control from the links on the page.

Please Note - Live View may not work with Netscape Navigator®, it also needs to be set up correctly, refer to the Setup Guide for details.

Firewalls  - If you have a firewall installed you may need to allow incoming or outgoing connections to the Web Server otherwise it will probably prevent the server from sending files to the remote computer's web browser.
Follow the instructions of your firewall provider to find out how to do this.

When you want to use the remote web view on your computer network, do the following...

1. Make sure the web server is running (Start button Pressed) on the computer with the webcam.
2. On a remote network computer start Internet Explorer™ or other web browsing program.
3. Enter the network IP address into Internet Explorer of the computer you wish to monitor - The PC with the web server program running.

(TIP: You can see the network address of the computer which has the web server running, it is displayed in the Web Server

settings box labeled 'Network IP Address is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx').
4. If the password feature is used you will see a dialog box asking for the User Name and Password... enter them correctly using lower case text.
5. You will now see a web page with the image of the remote computer,

it may take few seconds to appear depending on the speed of your network.

When you want to use the remote web view on the internet...

If you want to use the program across the internet using a broadband or dial up connection you will need to know the internet IP address of the computer which has the web server running.

You may also need to setup your router or firewall to allow the software to access the internet.

To find out your internet IP (not the same as your network IP address shown above) address go to http://www.whatsmyip.org  or click the button labelled 'What's My Internet IP Address'.
Please note: Your IP address may change unless your Internet service provider supplies you with a static IP.

To enable internet operation through a router you will need to set up 'Port Redirection' to the computer which has the web server installed.
You will need to allow TCP connections on the server port usually '80' unless you have changed it.

Once the internet connections are setup you can simply enter the internet IP address in a web browser and it will automatically connect to the web server.
