Overview of Using and Setting Up Patrol Viewer...

Vision Patrol software has been designed to be the easiest and most straight forward to use video remote control software available, just read the simple setup guide below for details...

Once you have installed and started Vision Patrol Viewer you will need to configure the settings before you can use the software. Not all features are available in the lite version.

When running for the first time you may be asked for your registration details and unique serial identification number.

To register, you must purchase a license, go to the downloads section for more details - click here.

To get to the settings options click the button which looks like this...      it appears on the control panel to the right of the Patrol Viewer video screen.

The settings dialog box will open for you to enter details, you first must set up the remote server settings so you can connect to a computer which is running Vision Patrol - (The the Video Streaming engine built into Vision Patrol is known as the server).

  • Server Port - This is the port which Vision Patrol is using, It should be set to the same value as on the server.
  • Password - Enter the password as used on the server.
  • Remote Server IP - This is the IP address of the remote computer, it can be a LAN or internet IP address. For test purposes you can install Patrol Viewer on the same computer which has Vision Patrol already installed, in which case you can use the test IP address (127.0.0.1).
  • Video Quality / Speed - You have four settings for the transmitted video quality. Only when connected to a server and video is being streamed can you change these settings. The lower the video quality the faster the streaming process.
  • Play Sound on Motion Detection -  A voice message will be played through the computers sound card when the Server has video motion detection (VMD) turned ON and motion is detected.
  • Record Video on Motion Detection - A video recording will be made for about 30 seconds when motion is detected on the server. The video file is stored in the recordings folder on your hard disk with a Date and Time stamp. You can play the video back using windows media playerŽ or other video player capable of playing avi files. The recorded quality may vary depending on the video codecs installed on your computer.

When you have finished simply click the 'Done' button.

To connect to a remote PC running Vision Patrol click the button which looks like this...

Troubleshooting connections...

Viewer will now attempt to connect to the specified IP address and search for Vision Patrol on the Server Port you have set.

If all goes well with in a few seconds (longer possibly if across the internet) you should see live video from the remote PC.

If nothing happens check your IP address and Server Port Settings. If your password is set incorrectly you will see a dialog box informing you to check your password.

If you have problems connecting to the server and you have checked that the settings are correct you may have a firewall installed which is blocking the connections. Check the firewall status at both the Server PC and Client PC running Patrol Viewer.

Set the firewalls to accept incoming and outgoing connections on Server Port number which you set (default setting is 50126).

If you connecting across the internet using a router you will need to set your router up for port redirection, refer to your routers instructions for enabling port redirection or forwarding/filtering.

Once connected you can now operate features unique to Patrol Viewer Professional...

Click the X10 Home Automation button to access the X10 control panel, looks like this...

With the X10 control panel you can manual switch ON or OFF up to 10 remote electrical appliances. This feature will only function if you have the correct type of X10 interface connected to the computer running Vision Patrol software (Server).

See the Vision Patrol guide for details and configuration of X10 hardware and PC interfaces.

You can type in descriptions for each device in the text boxes, these will be saved when you close the program.

Use the ON or OFF button to send a signal to the server.

The red coloured indicator shows if you have turned a device on or off. Due to the limitations of the X10 protocol and some X10 hardware the indicator does not confirm device operation, it only confirms that you have sent an X10 command.

To access the remote telemetry control, click the button which looks like this...

The telemetry control is designed to send signals to a motorised camera or video switcher hardware, although it can be configured to control other types of hardware.

There are many types of cameras and switchers on the market which are available, each manufacturer uses different protocols and methods of sending those signals - refer to the Vision Patrol setup guide for details.

Please note, you can also adjust the transmitted video quality from the telemetry controller.

Use the button which looks like this...    to open windows explorer to view the saved images or video files.

You can take a snapshot photo image at anytime by using the button which looks like this...

You can change the appearance of Patrol Viewer to suit your individual mood or tastes...

To change the skin (appearance) you will need to download the FREE skins from the download section.

Once downloaded you can save them in the Skins\ directory under Patrol Viewer folder.

To load a new skin simply right click on the title bar of the program (where it says 'Vision Patrol Viewer' etc.) with your mouse, and select the 'available skins' option.

You will now see a list of available skins which you can choose from.
